👉 Step 5️⃣ - Get Your Business Tax ID
Your Employer Identification Number (EIN) is your business’s social security number. It allows you to open a business bank account, apply for credit, and file taxes properly.
✅ What You'll Learn
- What an EIN is and why it matters
- How to get your EIN for free from the IRS
- What to do after receiving your EIN
🛠️ Step-by-Step EIN Application
1️⃣ Go to the official IRS EIN portal
👉 Click here for the IRS EIN portal
2️⃣ Apply online
- Hours: Monday–Friday, 7am–10pm EST
- Use your SSN and LLC name
- Choose “Sole Proprietor” or “LLC” based on your filing
- Select “Started a new business” as reason
3️⃣ Download your EIN confirmation letter (CP 575)
- This is your official proof of business identity — keep it saved! You’ll only receive it once directly from the IRS, and replacements can be time-consuming to request.
📌 Tips
- You only need one EIN per business
- Never pay for an EIN — it’s 100% free on the IRS site
- If you make a mistake, you can reapply (but only one EIN per day per person)
🧾 After You Get It
- Open a business bank account
- Add EIN to your business records
- Use it on applications, contracts, and tax forms
You're now officially in business. 💼
